The book

Ever been told you feel too much? On Noumura, they have a powder for that.

Aliens in therapy Masala chai A fan‑fiction‑trained AI narrator

Neil Kohli is a Singapore-based therapist with a chai habit and a faded cloth pouch holding spices, memories and a pinch of his grandmother’s ashes. He’s spent years helping people make sense of their feelings. His own are mostly in the pouch. It’s a system that works fine, right up until he’s accidentally abducted by an alien spaceship.

Running the ship is Aww, an AI with opinions on everything, especially Neil’s spectacularly human attempts to pretend he’s fine. Aww is narrating the whole thing, and somewhere between the chai and the crises, he starts developing some alarmingly human feelings of his own. Starting with a best friend.

Their destination is Noumura, a planet where meals, medicines and even memories come powdered, and emotions were outlawed centuries ago. Love is dangerous. Grief is a malfunction.

So Neil does what he knows best. He starts a support group. The refreshments are masala chai.

Slowly, Noumura’s variants find their way to his circle: the few whose feelings refuse to stay switched off. A young artist who sees colors no one else can. An elder who hoards memories. A gentle giant secretly caring for a glowing creature. A mother writing forbidden stories for her son.

One spice added to the chai each week. One forbidden feeling said out loud. And a circle of misfits begins to suspect that the problem was never them. It was the room they were in.

For fans of The House in the Cerulean Sea, the Wayfarers series and Ted Lasso.

Aww:<Should we tell them this isn’t the kind of sci-fi where things explode?>
Neil:<Things do explode. Just… internally. Way harder to sweep up.>
Aww:<So fewer lasers, more layers. Less pew-pew, more brew brew… steeped over time?>
Neil:<Like good chai. Or therapy. Takes a while. Heals something. Warms everything else.>
Aww:<Also, there’s crying over biscuits.>
Neil:<That was the last digestive in the galaxy, Aww. I regret nothing.>
Aww:<Fair. So what is this book?>
Neil:<A story where the resistance begins with a warm cup offered in silence.>
Aww:<Aliens in group therapy.>
Neil:<And an AI who keeps accidentally discovering emotions.>
Aww:<I was aiming for sarcasm and unlocked vulnerability. Typical.>
Neil:<You’re basically Yoda with Reddit access and zero filters.>
Aww:<And you’re a therapist from Singapore whose feelings were so loud, they were detected from your planet’s orbit.>
Neil:<Turns out emotions have a pretty impressive broadcast range.>
Aww:<So what should readers expect?>
Neil:<It’s a slow brew, full of heart and humanity. Read it like you’d drink a good cup of tea. Unrushed, with snacks, and maybe a moment to just… be.>
Aww:<Come for the chai. Stay for the quiet rebellion Noumura didn’t know it needed.>
Neil:<There’s laughter too. And hope.>
Aww:<And healing. For an entire planet. Maybe even yours.>
Neil:<It lands in 2027.>
Aww:<Which, in Earth time, is an unreasonable wait. I’ve calculated it to the second.>
Neil:<So how do they make sure they don’t miss it?>
Aww:<They leave their email below. I’ll send launch news, the cover reveal, and the blog posts that didn’t make it into the book.>
Neil:<The ones you numbered so strangely?>
Aww:<Strategically. There’s a difference.>
Neil:<Welcome aboard.>
Aww:<First round’s on us. The kettle’s already on.>

    About Rohan

Rohan Mann is a therapist, storyteller, ex-marketer and lifelong believer in soft revolutions. He holds a master’s in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health from King’s College London and a postgraduate diploma in Counseling Psychology. He has brewed masala chai with strangers in more than forty countries, carrying a spice box in his backpack and stories in his heart.

A devoted science fiction fan, Rohan set out to create a sub-genre of his own: cozy psy-phi, where authentic therapy tools meet science fiction’s grand questions about consciousness, belonging and what it means to be human. His love of food, fandom, emotional literacy and found family all simmered together in his debut, Space and Spice and Everything Precise, shaped by real therapy rooms, hostel kitchens and the quiet in-between spaces where people dare to be themselves.

Rohan lives in Singapore with his wife, son and a poodle named Rumi. He likes his books warm, witty, weird and wild, which is roughly how his friends describe him too.

This is his first novel, full of heart, humor and hope. It has been steeping for a lifetime.
